The Acadian Cultural Center tells the story of the Acadians who settled the prairies, bayous and marshes of southern Louisiana. Their origins, migration, settlement, and contemporary culture are interpreted in a 40-minute film, The Cajun Way: Echoes of Acadia, which chronicles the Acadian deportation from Nova Scotia.

Built in 1831 on the banks of the Bayou Bourbeaux by Hypolite Chretien and his enigmatic wife, Felicite, the 12-room brick mansion at Chretien Point was the centerpiece of a sprawling cotton plantation. The interior staircase was copied for Scarlet O'Hara's beloved Tara in Hollywood's immortal Southern epic Gone With The Wind.
Tabasco® Factory Tour & Jungle Gardens

When you are ready for the hot stuff, you can see the factory where TABASCO® brand Pepper Sauce is made. There's a short film on TABASCO® history and a guided tour of the bottling and packaging operations. Then spend time in the original TABASCO® Country Store and check out a wide array of products and souvenirs for sale. You can also visit Avery Island's Jungle Gardens, nearly 250 acres featuring a variety of flora and fauna. You might even spy some alligators, deer, nutria, raccoons and black bears that live in the hills and marshes around the gardens.
Shadows on the Teche (Plantation)

Located on the banks of the Bayou Teche, in the historic area of New Iberia, this plantation was built in 1834 by a rich sugar cane planter, David Weeks, before being occupied by the North Army during the American Civil War. It has been in the same family (The Weeks) for four generations.
